A new monsoon spell brought heavy rain across several cities in Pakistan. Lahore experienced light showers, while hill station Murree saw intermittent heavy downpours. In Azad Kashmir, Mirpur and Bagh received intense rain, raising flood risks in rivers and streams. Authorities warned of increased chances of flooding in low-lying areas due to swelling waterways.
Clouds also poured rain in Abbottabad, Narowal, Ferozwala, Bahawalnagar, and other regions. Water accumulated in many low-lying neighborhoods, causing disruption. Power outages occurred in several areas after feeders tripped during storms. These interruptions added to the difficulties faced by residents amid heavy rains.
Tragically, lightning struck in Lahore’s Kahna area, killing two people. In Ferozwala, a woman died after her house roof collapsed. Additionally, three others suffered injuries in rain-related incidents. Emergency services continue to work in affected zones to provide aid and restore safety.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued warnings for more heavy rains until September 2. Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh are expected to receive further downpours. Flood conditions may worsen along the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. Urban flooding poses a serious threat to many communities.
Officials urge residents to remain cautious and prepared for ongoing severe weather. Evacuation plans and relief efforts are in place for vulnerable areas. The government continues to monitor the situation closely to minimize damage and protect lives.
